Adopt-a-Siren

Who We Are

Sedgwick County Emergency Management's Adopt-a-Siren Program is a unique opportunity for citizens who live near an outdoor warning siren to participate in the success of the system. With 152 Sirens spread throughout the county, it's difficult for us to know exactly when one of the siren's has a problem.

By volunteering to be an outdoor warning siren observer, we hope to receive feedback from you via social media or email if you witness faulty or abnormal siren activation based on your visual and audible observations of the siren you've adopted.

Together we can ensure a safer Sedgwick County.

What We Do

When you apply for the Adopt-a-Siren Program as a volunteer outdoor warning siren observer, it is assumed that you will be able to witness siren activation for most of the weekly tests. Outdoor Warning Siren Tests are conducted every Monday at noon, barring holidays, and inclement weather.  Although anyone can inform the Sedgwick County Emergency Management Office of a siren malfunction at any time, enrollment in the Adopt-a-Siren Program allows us to contact you should we have a concern with the operation of the siren you live near.
