
Who We Are
The mission of the Sedgwick County Medical Reserve Corps (SCMRC) is to serve citizens and communities throughout Sedgwick County by establishing local teams of volunteers to promote healthy living throughout the year and prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
What We Do
The Sedgwick County MRC (SCMRC) is primarily designed to assist and supplement the existing emergency medical response and public health systems. However, SCMRC volunteers and resources may be utilized in non-emergency situations as well. SCMRC volunteers are encouraged to promote and participate in public health initiatives, community health outreach programs.
MRC Activities
Examples of activities that MRC volunteers participate in and support
include the following:
• Emergency preparedness and response trainings and exercises
• Emergency shelter operations and medical care
• Disaster medical and behavioral health support
• Medical facility surge support
• Mass dispensing efforts (e.g., medication, water, other supplies)
• Disease testing and surveillance
• Community vaccination clinics
• Veterinary care
• Support services to disaster call centers, family assistance centers,
and reception/evacuation centers
• Emergency operations center and communications support
• Patient movement support
• Search and rescue operations
• Disaster clean-up and recovery support
• First aid and medical support during large public gatherings
• Community education and outreach
• Emergency preparedness and response planning, logistical, and
administrative support

How To Sign Up
To qualify as a volunteer with MRC you will need to complete these items below:
- Click on either the "Non Medical Sign Up" or "Medical Sign Up" MRC Opportunity based on your background/credentials
- Click the "Respond" button in the top right of the screen and submit the required qualifications. Once your qualifications are reviewed and approved you will receive an email or an alert on the website.
- Your qualification requirement for this opportunity will be to complete and verify your profile on this website and select the option in the qualification.
- Once you received your “qualified” email, return to the website, click “Respond” once more to complete your county provided background check. This step will take you off the SGReDI website to sterling volunteers. Please follow the prompts to complete this step.
Once you submit your background check, the administration team will be notified. If your background check is accepted. The team will move you over to the Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer user group and will be able to see available opportunities.
- You will locate the Entry level Volunteer Level 4 Training Opportunity.
- Complete the qualifications attached (listed below)
- Watch a HIPAA Video and sign the consent form
- Sign the MRC membership handbook
- Sign the non-employee IT-agreement
- Complete the qualifications attached (listed below)
Once these are complete you will be added to the level 4 “entry” Volunteer group and will be able to sign up for opportunities
Once these items are successfully completed. You will be able to begin volunteering as an entry level volunteer. As a non-medical volunteer, we may have many roles in which you can participate within MRC. There are also other trainings and qualifications to can attain while volunteering with us at MRC!!!
As a non-medical volunteer you can assigned into roles including, registration, Line flow, and traffic flow. Non-medical volunteers many also assist across other areas such as Outreach/Recruitment as needed.
