Opportunities From: SG ReDI - Sedgwick County Public Safety Volunteers

The CERT Basic Training Weekend is a 20-hour FEMA program held on a Friday evening, all-day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. All of the modules are designed to be delivered as one class. By registering for CERT Basic Training Class, it is assumed you will attend each module of the weekend. Participants who attend all modules will receive a certificate of completion which may be recognized nationally in other communities and allows access to future volunteer opportunities. 

There is no additional volunteer commitment associated with this class. CERT Basic Training Weekend is designed for public education, however, it does open the door for you to join our Advanced CERT Team in the future. 

Community Emergency Response Team training is designed and open for all adult ages, shapes, sizes, abilities, disabilities, backgrounds, and skill levels.   

Coffee, Water, and snacks will be provided every day. Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

This opportunity is open to individuals who have completed the CERT Basic Training Weekend and intend to be an active disaster volunteer as part of an organized team. This organized CERT team will meet regularly, receive additional training, and will become a deployable asset within the State and elsewhere.

Medical Description

Thank you for your interest in becoming a medical volunteer with Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)! 

To qualify as a volunteer with MRC, please complete the steps below:

If your background check is accepted, you will become part of the MRC volunteer user group and required to complete the Volunteer Level Three (entry level) Training.

Please complete the qualifications listed below:

Once these are complete, you will be added to the level 4 “entry” Volunteer group and will be able to sign up for opportunities.

You are now ready to sign up and begin volunteering! We have many roles available to you as a medical volunteer within MRC. There are also additional trainings and qualifications you can attain while volunteering with us.

To qualify as a volunteer with MRC you will need to complete these items below:

Once you submit your background check, the administration team will be notified. If your background check is accepted. The team will move you over to the Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer user group and will be able to see available opportunities.

Once these are complete you will be added to the level 4 “entry” Volunteer group and will be able to sign up for opportunities.

Once these items are successfully completed. You will be able to begin volunteering as an entry level volunteer.  As a non-medical volunteer, we may have many roles in which you can participate within MRC. There are also other trainings and qualifications you can attain while volunteering with us at MRC!!!

This opportunity is intended for the general public to start their qualification journey to riding along with one of our EMS crews. Below is a list of program requirements that must be completed PRIOR to scheduling your ride-along

Step 1 (Click the "SIGN UP" button at the top right or bottom of the page to begin) 

1. Sign up for a SGRedi account or login if you already have one.

2. Locate the background check button and sign up for a Sterling Volunteers account

2. Watch the HIPAA video and sign the HIPAA acknowledgement form. 

3. Review and sign the non-disclosure agreement.

4. Watch EMS ride-along orientation video.

5. Print EMS Ride-Along Rider Release form and bring that to your ride-along.

6. If you have done a fit-test within the last calendar year, you will need to submit a copy of the certificate.

Step 3

7a. If you did not submit a fit-test certificate, you will receive an email from a Sedgwick County EMS personnel to schedule and complete fit testing.

7b. If you submitted a fit-test certificate, you will receive an email from a Sedgwick County EMS personnel to schedule a date for your ride-along. If fit-test certificate was not approved, you would need to submit an appropriate one or pay and schedule one with us.

Here is the 3-step process for Responding to this volunteer opportunity. 

1. Click the "Respond" button in the top right of the screen and submit the required qualifications. Once your qualifications are reviewed and approved you will receive an email.

2. Once you receive your "Qualified" email, return to the website, click the "Respond" button once more to complete your county provided background check.

3. Once your background check is approved, you are ready to serve your community.
